Ali Enache (b. 1985, Washington D. C., USA), creates a stunning universe of foggy abstract landscapes and masterfully composed colors whose interplay on the canvas seems to take on a life of its own. Painting with diluted acrylic washes on unprimed canvases, she prefers to let the materials speak and intermingle according to their natural flow, creating works with subtle texture that reveals itself the longer you look at them. Her gentle, yet dramatic gradients and color work evoke sublime Romantic landscapes filled with thunderstorms, fog and mist. Yet as they remain almost wholly abstract, they equally draw on the strength of 20th century abstract art by artists like Mark Rothko, their subtlety a means to the powerful and expressive.
